Captain Tobin was the first to apply scientific, ecology-based fish-finding methods to the Texas Coast, drawing from his Texas A&M Ecology degree. When others began copying his approach, he shifted his focus to private coaching, working exclusively with Club Texas and the Big Trout Coaching Group—helping members grow into top-tier anglers, tournament competitors, and even professional guides.

What to Bring on Your Trip

  • Cap with a Brim

  • High Quality Sunglass (Costa, Bahio, or for budget minded anglers Calcutta Sunglasses). Not Sponsored.

  • 2 rods and reels that are not in need of maintenance (can be spin or casting).

  • Spooled recently with Quality line and Leader close to capacity. (Don't go into battle with an untested sword or one that's rusty).

  • Rigged with leader already tied and one lure already on to start the day - Check with Captain

  • For Wading Trips - Check your waders ahead of the trip and maintain as needed.

  • Layers of Cloths Based on Weather for trip- Check with Captain

  • Wading Jacket or some sort of wind breaking shell

  • Food and Water

  • Sunscreen, Buffs, and Sun Gloves

  • Small Wade fishing lure box of your choice - Check with captain for lures needed.

  • Fish holding device such as a Boga or similar. Please don't bring vise grip like 'Fish Grippers' they tear large holes in fish.

  • Pliers or Hook-Outs, and something to cut line / trim knots

  • Keep it Simple - Leave the Kitchen Sink at home.

  • Relax and have fun, the Captain will take care of you.
